Paul Newcomer has practiced continuously as a multiemployer plan fund counsel for 28 years. He has guided Plan Sponsors and Trustees from design to operation and merger to termination and all phases of representation between. ERISA litigation has formed a core element of Paul’s practice, and he has appeared as counsel in federal District Court’s across the country in innumerable actions and withdrawal liability and deadlock arbitration proceedings, and has presented and defended appeals in the 2d, 6th, 7th and 9th Circuits. Paul has been appointed and retained as counsel to orphan plans, negotiated resolution of mass withdrawals and applications for PBGC financial assistance, as well as being lead counsel on five applications to suspend benefits (MPRA) and an equal number of applications for special financial assistance (SFA) from PBGC. Paul brings a wealth of experience and a strong dedication to the interests of his clients in every matter.
A native of New York, New York, Paul resides in suburban Detroit, Michigan and has been in private practice continuously since leaving a post-law school judicial clerkship with United States District Judge Charles W. Joiner of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He is a member of the Bar of Michigan, and Illinois.
